2018 Annual Seminar Information Posted

The Huntsville Chapter of AFWA will be presenting our annual one-day Accounting, Finance & Tax Seminar on Friday, Aug 24, 2018 at Redstone Federal Credit Union’s Atrium conference center (220 Wynn Drive). This seminar qualifies for 8 hours of continuing education credit (including 4 hours of Accounting and Auditing).

Family Social

AFWA – Huntsville Chapter’s Family Social at

Huntsville Botanical Garden’s Firefly Night Hike

(2 miles hike with S’mores)

 

WHEN:  Tue, July 24, 2018 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

 

COST:  Members $10, Non-members $12 (this is your HSV Botanical Gardens status)

Free for children ages 3 and under

WHERE:  Meet in the Boeing-Toyota Amphitheater

(First parking lot immediately to your left as you enter the Garden)

This is a social event for AFWA members, friends, and family.  Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a flashlight as you explore the Garden at night with the group.  We will roast s’mores as a mid-way snack and view the new Gardens of Myth creatures specially lit for night-time viewing.

Optional: You may bring a clean, dry plastic jar with lid for a firefly catch and release moment.

Farewell Reception for Florence Royer

Please make plans to join the Huntsville Chapter of the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA) on Monday, July 16 for a Networking Social and Farewell Reception for Florence Royer.  She is a retired charter member of our chapter who will be moving to Kansas later this month.  There is no speaker – just networking, hors d’oeuvres, and farewell wishes for Florence.  We look forward to catching up with former members and friends at this event.

This seminar qualifies for 8 hours of continuing education credit (including 4 hours of Accounting and Auditing). Topics include Tax Update and GAAP Update (including Revenue Recognition Standard).

New Job Posting

Title:                2016-010 Jr. Accountant

Company:        DESE Research. Inc.

Education:       Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in accounting.

Experience:     At least 3-5 years relevant accounting experience with a government contractor. Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Deltek GCS Premier. Deltek Cost Point Foundations experience a plus.

Skills:

Payroll: Responsible for all payroll processing including entering timesheets; processing payroll; preparing and vouchering payroll taxes; preparing labor reports for management; account reconciliation; prepare/file all payroll tax returns; manage all employee deductions; prepare W-2’s; annual audit of worker’s comp insurance; other duties as assigned.

Accounts Payable: Responsible for all AP processing including preparing/filing use tax returns; quarterly dividends; insurance payments; consultants; travel; etc. Maintain the depreciation schedule. Other duties as assigned.
